Poem - 'How to survive a bear attack'

How to survive a bear attack

Contact the park warden
if you suspect any suspicious activity.

Remember,
bears attack
only-the-most-vulnerable,
only-the-most-pathetic.

To become visible is
to become vulnerable.
Practice disappearing.

Close yourself off.
Carry something sharp.
Do not take one goddamn step off the trail.

Remember,
when you are attacked
(and you will be attacked), to assume the attack is predatory,
to assume he will fight until death.

Remember,
when you’re asleep beside your lover,
when he grabs your wrists,
tightens his grip and
forces you against your will,
defend yourself.

Do not act like prey.

Do not act like a victim.
